We are on a volcano
STORY
The restless giant. We are in Linguaglossa on Mount Etna. A unique and fascinating set of territories. Man here interacts, often with difficulty, with a beautiful but equally complicated environment. Everything here is extreme, at the limit of vine cultivation. Between 500 and 1400 meters above sea level, there are the localities with the most pronounced viticultural vocation, and the most representative vineyards of Etna's enology. It is to these vineyards that we owe the oldest Sicilian Denominazione di Origine Controllata, established in 1968.
The link between the volcano and wine goes back to ancient times: finds of vine shoots on Etna in fact take us between the end of the Neolithic and the beginning of the Metal Age, that is, 4 or 5 millennia ago. These were probably wild vines, tended following the arrival of the Mediterranean peoples who settled on the island. In fact, we owe to the Phoenicians and then the Greeks the introduction of new systems of cultivation and production of wine, which was marketed throughout the Mediterranean.
