A Family Business
The Gambino family: pragmatic, direct and sincere. A relationship with the land, the product and the guests always under the banner of authenticity and Mediterranean warmth. A family that loves these places and these vineyards and interprets them right in its wines. Among the first to bet on the unpredictable possibilities of being able to interpret these lands, today they have learned a lot from this many years of experience. Always on the farm and always in the forefront are Maria, Vittorio, Maria Grazia, Filadelfo and Francesco.
Our Story
Wine is a set of details that only with daily attention, constructive discussion among various professionals and passion, matures to become an extraordinary experience. We harvest by hand because the plant like the earth needs time and silence.
1978
In 2002 the three descendants, Maria Grazia, Filadelfo and Francesco Raciti Gambino, together with their mother, Maria Gambino renewed the business and modernized the wine production process. Thus the Gambino Winery was born. Wine tourism was the focus of the activities, stimulated by the passion for people and the pleasure of sharing the soul of this beautiful land.
2002
In 2012, the Gambino family decided to expand the new facility to accommodate the influx of people from all over the world, confirming their excellent ability to make people in Sicily feel at home.
2012
The history of the Gambinos dates back to 1978, when Vittorio Raciti acquired the land property by combining several plots of land belonging to different owners. He soon converted the varied crops practiced to the sole cultivation of vines, sharing his passion with his wife Maria Gambino.
1980 - 1990
Since the 1980s throughout the 1990s, months and months of excavation have altered the morphology of the land in what has now become one of the most beautiful terraced properties in northeastern Etna, covering 8 hectares in c.da Petto Dragone.
2008 - 2011
In 2008 due to the location of the winery within Etna Park, a protected area, the winery could not be structurally expanded due to new regulations in force. The Gambino family, with the help of private financial support changed the location of the winery starting the new construction completed only after 3 years. An enormous amount of work that today has paid off for the Gambino family with the production of an excellent wine with very low CO2 emissions, thanks to the fact that the in the new construction the winery was dug underground.
2018
Today the winery includes 25 hectares of land with grapes and other crops. The Grillo, Cabernet and Nero d'Avola vines are grown in the Caltanissetta area of central Sicily. Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Cataratto and Carricante, on the other hand, are grown on the Etna territories. The Gambino winery is the highest on the volcano, and the vineyards are managed with a low yield per plant to achieve the balance that is the basis for quality wines.
We use temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Wine aging is also temperature-controlled. In the cellar we have numerous precious wooden barrels, carefully selected by our winemaker, to combine tradition and new technologies, thus minimizing sulfites and bringing out the best flavors and aromas of our wines.
Insecticides
We have abolished the use of traditional insecticides, preferring pheromones to manage grape defense naturally.
Elements
We believe in the balance of elements so everything we offer and how we do it is possible.
Winery
The cellar is eleven meters underground, dug into volcanic rock for natural temperature control.
Bathtubs
Our tanks are all temperature-controlled and the barrels carefully chosen.
